Gaffer
Lighting is my first love.
When I work as a Gaffer I'm usually
given autonomy in lighting after the general parameters for
each shot have been discussed. If you have a hands-on DP, I'm
also perfectly fine with taking specific direction on light
placement. My strength lies in not just being a technical
head lighting technician, but one capable of creative lighting
direction sensitive to the DP's or Director's vision. I don't
need my hand held to make decisions on artistic choices when
a tight schedule demands a DP's attention be elsewhere. I work quickly and
can handle directing whatever size crew your production may require.

8x8 setup, black seamless hit with three 300's for urban

I treat video with the same
attention to detail as film. Video is different from film and
in many areas needs more finesse to avoid a flat look or soap
opera feel. By avoiding certain colors & contrasts in the
set or wardrobe, suggesting internal camera
settings/white balances and generally
taking the care one would when lighting film, I will bring a
film quality to your video production.

With my lighting work in
theater and in architectural lighting I also draw on my
knowledge of practicals available to incorporate into a set. If I can be involved in pre-production, I know where and how to
access hundreds of different types of fixtures that can add
an extra dimension of realism and style to a set or location.

I also work with
intelligent lighting, and have programmed Roboscans to do very slow
moving backgrounds in display setups. Using their frost
filters and internally rotating gobos I've created subtle
moving effects. These gradually changing colors can add a very surprising
touch to film or video. Motorized gobo rigs I own can give subtle shifts in interview
backgrounds.
My background in interview lighting goes beyond what
you might normally see on the network programming.

As a Gaffer when it comes to
providing power for a set I can take care of calculating all
loads, placing electrical orders and either doing or
supervising the tie-in. I maintain correct HMI color
temperatures and all color correction
determinations between film stocks & daylight/tungsten
sources. I carry a full complement of ambient, reflective & color
temperature meters and needed tools
in my kit. I also have a computer program along with an azimuth/elevation
meter to pinpoint sun positions in determining suitability & optimum timing
of exterior location shots.

I can co-ordinate all your
personnel and equipment needs if you happen to be shooting
here in the Cincinnati region. Whether it be AC's,
grip/electrics, location scouts, PA's, make-up artists, craft
services.... I can help you find exactly who you need.
